GOAL

We designed a permanent, interactive entry exhibit for the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center that celebrates more than three centuries of New Orleans history. The exhibit is a video wall standing nearly 14 feet high, and stretching 28 feet wide.

EXPERIENCE

The experience attracts visitors with full-canvas motion graphics, and detects their presence through overhead depth cameras. Approaching users are presented with a touchscreen interface that offers them an opportunity to explore 175 historical events and destinations through archival imagery, maps, and text.

DESIGN

We created the design system using five elements: Photography, Type, Color, Textures, and Objects. For a look and feel as vibrant as the city itself, we drew inspiration from NOLA’s rich history in the arts, culture, and architecture.

SOFTWARE

Custom Rare Volume software bridges four GPUs in order to drive the wall at a resolution 42x that of 1080p high definition video, and does so at interactive frame rates. The system is also integrated with a content management tool, enabling the organization to update events and destinations as the city’s history continues to unfold.
